Send Private Messages in the Chat

Who can use it? Host, Moderator

On which plans? All

Organizers and moderators can write privately to anyone in the event room, right from the chat. Only the two of you see the conversation: other organizers and moderators don't.

Attendees can't start a private conversation. They reply when an organizer or a moderator writes to them.

Start a Private Conversation#

There are 3 ways to start a conversation with someone in the room.

1 In the Chat tab, hover over one of the person's messages, then click on Message in the bar that appears.

2 In the Chat tab, click on the person's name, then click on Message.

3 In the People tab, click on the ⋮ next to the person's name, then click on Send a private message.

The conversation opens. Type your message and press Enter: the person gets the conversation when you send your first message.

You can't write privately to anonymous attendees, and breakout rooms have no private messages. If the chat is hidden for attendees, you can only write to team members and external speakers.

Find Your Conversations#

All your conversations are in the Messages tab of the chat. A number shows how many messages you haven't read yet.

  • Click on a conversation to open it, and on Back to messages to go back to the list.

  • Click on Next to open the next conversation with unread messages.

  • In a conversation, see whether the person is In the room or has Left the room.

  • From 6 conversations, you can search by name and filter them: All or Unread.

Reply to a Private Message#

When someone writes to you privately, a card shows above the message box: "[Name] wrote to you privately". Click on Reply to answer, or on View to open the conversation.

The Messages tab then shows in your chat, with your conversations.

Edit or Delete a Private Message#

Edit or delete your own messages from the ⋮ menu next to them. Each person can only edit or delete their own messages, and a conversation can't be deleted.

For privacy reasons, private messages don't appear in your chat exports or in the API, and they don't count in the number of messages each person sent.
