Run an A/B Test on a Page

This feature is only available in Pages & Hubs, our new registration page builder. It is in beta and available on request: the Livestorm team turns it on per organization. Write to help@livestorm.co to ask for it.

Compare up to four versions of a published page, then keep the one that converts best.

What It's For#

An A/B test splits the visitors of your page’s address evenly between its versions. Each visitor keeps seeing the same version, and the page’s A/B test tab compares how many people registered on each one.

The versions live inside the page. They never appear in your pages list, and the page keeps its address. When you end the test, the version you keep becomes the page’s content.

How To#

1 Open a published page on its “A/B test” tab and select “Create version B”.

Open a published page on its “A/B test” tab and select “Create version B”.

2 Version B starts as a copy of “Version A (original)”, at its own address. Select “Edit” on a version’s row to open it in the builder, and change what you want to compare, such as the headline or the cover.

3 In the builder, the header reads “Version B of an A/B test”. The “Version” switcher at the end of the tab bar opens the same screen for another version.

4 Back on the “A/B test” tab, select “Add version C” if you want a third version, and again for a fourth. When the versions are ready, select “Start test”.

Once the test runs, versions can no longer be added or removed.

5 While the test runs, each version shows its “Views”, “Registrations” and “Conversion”. The version that converts best is tagged “Leading”.

6 To finish, select “End test”, choose the version to keep, and confirm with “Keep version B” (the button names the version you chose).

The version you keep becomes the page’s content, at its address.

Good to Know#

  • Only a published page can be tested: until then, “Create version B” stays disabled. “Start test” also needs at least one other version published.

  • A test compares four versions at most, A to D. Every version stays editable while the test runs.

  • All versions share the page’s registration limit, and someone registered on one version counts as already registered on the others. Versions also offer the page’s promo codes.

  • Views count people only, bots excluded. Conversion is registrations per view since the test started. “Leading” appears once every version has been viewed, and never on a tie.

  • Ending the test archives every version with the registrations it took, under Archived in your pages list. The page keeps its own registration limit, whichever version you keep.

  • Before you start a test, “Discard” deletes its versions and leaves the page as it is.

  • In your pages list, a page under test shows an “A/B test running” or “A/B test draft” chip that opens the tab. The page cannot be deleted until its test is ended or discarded.

  • Visitors who open the page in a given language are only sent to versions translated into that language. A page embedded on another site is not split.
